Code reuse, long a goal of OO programming, turns out to be quite difficult. But because the developers of the hydra-headed Apache Jakarta Project have confronted the same infrastructure requirements across projects, they've had a powerful incentive to reuse their solutions. Hence the Jakarta Commons— libraries intended to save developers boring and wasteful reinventing of wheels long since hewn, smoothed and greased.
