The annual waiver premium for the long service advance of pay (LSAP) payment, used to help troops buy a house, is to be increased six-fold. Personnel claiming must now pay a yearly waiver fee of 30 pence per £100 borrowed. Previously the premium was five pence. Individual soldiers can receive an advance of up to £8,500, which would result in a total of £25.44 being charged. The fee rise has been introduced to accommodate the number of LSAP payments being waived, which has increased considerably since the premium was last adjusted in 2007.
