The author considers general principles, trends in prospective investigations and technological procedures for ungrading the residues of petroleum refining and other carbon-containing materials in a hydrogen medium. The results of bench tests of the hydrogenation of petroleum refining residues of various origin with a solution of ammonium polymolybdate dispersed in the feed are described. The effect of the basic technological indices on the increase of the degree of processing and the quality of the products obtained has been studied.
