摘要

The formation of liquid-crystalline structures in petroleum and coal tar pitches is considered as a manifestation of mesomorphism in hydrocarbon products with disk-like molecules. The materials on the structure, determination, kinetics of formation of mesophase structures in pitches and the control of these processes are reviewed and analyzed. Special attention is given to new data on the diversity of the structures and the properties of the mesophases, their birth and the relation of the process to the formation of crystalline nuclei. The spheres of the practical use of the mesophase pitches in diverse carbon materials are considered, in the carbonization of coals, and in refining petroleum residues.
