A little explanation of the title is in order. The real intent of this Editorial is to state how much I am impressed by today's vibration monitoring entrepreneurs. To accomplish this I thought that I could compare the practice of my generation several years ago with these modern engineers and technicians that are performing so well with today's technology. I looked up the term generation in the dictionary and found that a generation was considered to be about 35 years. That would put the comparison year at 1961 and those of us who were in the business then know that there was practically nothing used that we could compare with today's technology; thus, the choice of the half generation gap. This would put the comparison year at 1978.
