Mapping northwest of Laingsburg has revealed the presence of thrusting which is confined to the stratigraphic interval between the Dwyka Group and the Laingsburg Formation. The thrusts developed as break-through structures on the steep northward-dipping limbs of asymmetric anticlines and were themselves gently folded before the end of the main deformation. Vergence is northward and the minimum displacement is of the order of several kilometres. Small-scale back-thrusting is common, and upward and downward splays are developed on various scales. A backward propagation model is preferred. Small-scale later normal faulting is also present.
