ISRO, starting with the simple technology development spacecraft "Aryabhata" in 1975, has grown into a mature application driven space agency with operational class of satellites in remote sensing (IRS series) and communication (the INSAT-2 and INSAT-3 series). Some very interesting scientific missions like, SROSS c-2 and IRS-P3, have also been achieved in this time frame. The paper summarizes the technology developments/ progress that have taken place in major areas of spacecraft technology during the past 25 years. Technology development towards achieving more with limited resources is a continuos process. In order to be globally competitive, and at the same time, meet the growing demands for space services, a much larger production capability has become imperative. New challenges include taking along industry and academia in this pursuit of excellence.
