摘要

Yttrium-iron garnet (YIG) Y_3Fe_5O_12 is a peritectic oxide. The direct growth of YIG from deeply undercooled melt with stoichiometric composition was examined by means of containerless processing technique. A droplet of YIG composition levitated by aero-acoustic levitation method was successfully undercooled to 1440 deg .C, about 150 deg .C below its peritectic temperature. The YIG phase is observed in the specimen seeded at 1500 deg .C, while the specimen nucleated spontaneously consisted mostly of the YfeO_3 phase.
