Gilat Satellite Networks said it has resolved a long-standing dispute with the Colombian government over contracts calling for the installation of Gilat's satellite network terminals for rural communications at thousands of sites. Gilat had said Colombian authorities had refused to pay for some of the work, for which contracts were signed in 1999 and 2002. In a Dec. 31 announcement, Petah Tikva, Israel-based Gilat said the agreement with Colombia will free up in 2009 and 2010 some $24 million in payments that Colombia had been holding in trust accounts pending a resolution of the outstanding issues. But Gilat will have to remove several thousand satellite-telephone booths that are no longer used, and upgrade other sites at its own expense under the agreement.
