The U.S. Air Force has narrowed to six the field of possible locations for the headquarters of 24th Air Force, a new numbered Air Force that will be focused on protecting from cyber attacks, according to a Jan. 21 Air Force press release. The possible locations are Barksdale Air Force Base, La.; Lackland Air Force Base, Texas; Langley Air Force Base, Va.; Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.; Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.; and Scott Air Force Base, Ill. The Air Force intends to make the decision by June, which will be based on factors including proximity to other operational cyber missions, communications bandwidth capacity, infrastructure and security, the release said.
