The Space Technologies and Applications International Forum (STAIF), an annual gathering of the space nuclear community held each February for the past 25 years in Albuquerque, N.M., has been canceled for 2009 and beyond. Mohamed S. El-Genk, the University of New Mexico professor who has organized the conference since 1984, said STAIF is no longer viable as a standalone meeting in light of dwindling NASA funding for space nuclear power.
