The Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) plan to launch two astronauts into space by 2015 has moved a step closer to formal government approval. ISRO spokesman S. Satish said the space agency's 124 billion rupee ($2.5 billion) human spaceflight program, first proposed in November 2006, was approved Feb. 23 by the Planning Commission, a statutory body headed by India's prime minister to formulate fiveyear spending plans and submit them to the cabinet for final approval. "We do not know when this will come but we expect sometime before the general elections" scheduled for May, Satish said.
