Near-Earth space is becoming a junk yard. It is becoming increasingly congested with space objects resulting from initiatives that no longer serve any function. Examples of such orbital debris include expired spacecraft, upper stages of launch vehicles, debris released during spacecraft separations from launch vehicles or during mission operations, debris created as a result of spacecraft and upper stage explosions or collisions, solid rocket motor effluents and paint flecks.
