The U.S. Air Force has begun studying the possibility of using its new-generation missile warning satellites for some of the rocket-launch range tracking functions now handled by ground-based radars, according to a service official.rnTaking advantage of satellites built and launched for another purpose could save money that otherwise would have to be invested in replacing aging infrastructure at the ranges, according to Air Force Col. Gary Henry, commander of the Launch and Range Systems Wing at the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center in Los Angeles.
