As work begins this month on a new 10-year plan for robotic exploration of the solar system, the White House is urging the committee leading the decadal survey to exercise budget restraint as it draws up the list of missions it wants NASA to undertake.rnDuring the second day of the National Research Council's (NRC) Planetary Science Decadal Survey steering committee meeting here, Amy Kaminski of the White House Office of Management and Budget, and Damon Wells of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy cautioned panel members to keep their expectations for the coming decade in line with the agency's 2010 budget request, which seeks roughly $1.35 billion for planetary science.
