A National Research Council (NRC) panel is urging the U.S. government to immediately release hundreds of images derived from classified satellite data that could be useful to scientists studying the rapid loss of Arctic sea ice.rn"At a time when there is concern that Earth observation systems are decreasing and aging, releasing these images would be a step toward continuing the flow of critical information to the scientific community," Ralph Cicerone, president of the National Academy of Sciences, said in a July 15 press release announcing the National Research Council panel's newly released report, "Scientific Value of Arctic Sea Ice Imagery Derived Products."
