Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems of Seal Beach, Calif., has completed construction of a $10 million, 1,845-square-meter satellite mission control center in El Segundo, Calif., according to an Aug. 4 Boeing press release. The site is used to control satellites from the time they are mated to a launch vehicle through on-orbit testing and can manage up to four commercial or government satellite missions at any one time. The site has more than 100 engineering workstations and replaces a smaller site in El Segundo. Newly developed software will allow each of the center's four control suites to switch from one unique mission to another in a matter of days, and the facility was designed with the flexibility to add control suites quickly in response to market demand, the release said.
