Mobile satellite services operator ICO Global Communications has enough cash to survive in the near term if it limits its spending to continue its service trials and not much else, ICO Chief Executive J. Timothy Bryan said Dec. 10. Addressing a UBS investor conference in New York, Bryan said he is optimistic that the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will grant ICO's request to use its satellite S-band frequencies for ground-based communications in areas its ICC-G1 satellite cannot reach. ICO is one of several mobile satellite companies proposing to use a network of signal repeaters, called an Ancillary Terrestrial Component (ATC).
