Michael Krepon is disappointed that public discussion about the Pentagon's plans to develop space-based weapons generally has been confined to the trade press. "I think that the Pentagon's push to weaponize space is the most consequential issue that is not now being addressed in the mainstream media," Krepon said. Krepon, the founding president of the Stimson Center, began closely monitoring national security space issues during a stint at the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agcncy during the administration of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. Since co-founding the Stimson Center, a think tank here that focuses on threat reduction and international security issues, Krepon has written books including "Commercial Observation Satellites and International Security" in 1990; "Cooperative Threat Reduction, Missile Defense, and the Nuclear Future" in 2003; and "Space Assurance or Space Dominance? The Case Against Weaponizing Space" in 2003.
