EchoStar has purchased more than $1 billion worth of satellite capacity from SES Global's Americom subsidiary over the next 10 years by fully booking three new satellites to be launched by mid-2006, according to industry officials. EchoStar's purchase solidifies the business case for SES Global's Americom2Home strategy, which positions SES as a wholesale supplier of television broadcast and satellite-broadband capacity in North America to anyone who wants it. It is the same business model the company has used successfully in Europe.
