The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is raising the volume in its long war on satellite-delivered radio, calling on its members to back congressional legislation that would prohibit satellite companies from offering local traffic and weather information to listeners. NAB President Edward O. Fritts, in an April 19 address to the NAB 2004 Convention in Las Vegas, said XM Satellite Radio of Washington, and Sirius Satellite Radio of New York, should be barred from broadcasting local weather and traffic, a development he called "cream-skimming" of certain local broadcast markets.
