As the nation says farewell to Presi-dent Ronald Wilson Reagan it is fit-ting that Elon Musk's Space X rocket is on the verge of its first flight. President Reagan championed the uniquely American view that free enterprise is the key to the development of innovative technology and the creation of wealth. Through the endless genius of the entrepreneurs who invest their capital and the brave people who joined with them to think out of the box, new and better products are created. But Musk is not alone on the threshold. But Rutan is on the verge of beating the 100 kilometer altitude mark for a civilian spaceflight. Walt Bigelow seems to be making steady progress toward becoming one of the few truly private companies to offer human habitats in space. Several private companies also are trying to bid on a Hubble rescue effort. NASA's micro-gravity airplane business could be con-tracted out today. There are many others.
