摘要

The U.S. Army is developing a high-altitude radar sensor that advocates say could augment existing satellite and airborne systems for battlefield surveillance and reconnaissance. The Distributed Imaging Radar Technology (DIRT) system would be able to collect high-resolution imagery and track moving targets — the two main capabilities envisioned for the U.S. Air Force's proposed Space Based Radar, Army officials said. DIRT sensors would be mounted on platforms capable of loitering high above the battlefields for extended periods of time, said Col Wilbur Parker, director of the Army Technology Directorate at Army Space and Missile Defense Command, Huntsville, Ala. One possible host is the experimental High Altitude Airship un-der development by Lockheed Martin Corp. and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, he said.
