An influential U.S. lawmaker looking to boost the potential of NASA's Virginia launch facility is looking to tap an account created in 2011 to overhaul infrastructure at the agency's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The lawmaker is Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee and is a longtime patron of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. Goddard oversees NASA's Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia, which in recent years has become an active satellite launching facility and is often viewed as a future competitor to Kennedy.
