In September 2010 the US Congress passed President Obama's new space policy initiative designed to redirect the course of US participation in space. After a controversial passage through the legislature, the policy confirmed the adjustment from large-scale projects associated with the birth of the Space Age, towards a leaner, more entrepreneurial approach. The expansive vision of space dominance that once underpinned US space exploration was displaced in favour of multiparty cooperation and public-private partnerships.
