摘要

This paper presents JAXA's concept study of a sample returning system on the HTV (H-II Transfer Vehicle). The system selected in this study is a minimum capsule which has the capability of a 50 kg payload to retrieve some biological or biomedical samples from the International Space Station. This capsule, about 1 m in diameter and 1 m in length, can carry one mid-deck locker or a KRC GN2 freezer. The estimated time period for a sample retrieve is planned to be less than 24 hours from its re-entry. For a quick recovery, the capsule is supposed to splash down in the open sea near the Wake Island.
