The European Space Agency was not the only recipient of good news as the year came to an end. In the US the Senate voted 84-9 authorizing $22.75 billion for NASA in 2020, the fiscal year that began on 1 October 2019. The final sum included most of the $1.6 billion requested as a down payment on the Artemis programme for returning astronauts to the Moon.
