IN THE LATEST of the BIS West Midlands virtual talks, Robin Hague, Launch Team Leader for Skyrora Ltd, gave a presentation on his company's Skyrora XL and other launch vehicles. Skyrora is based in Edinburgh, with a supporting resource centre in Ukraine that has past experience of launch vehicle development. Skyrora XL is a three-stage, 23 m tall vehicle employing an innovative liquid propellant combination consisting of high-test hydrogen peroxide (HTP) and a form of kerosene - called Ecosene -derived from recycled waste plastics. The company has already earned awards for its groundbreaking work developing Ecosene which, by successfully recycling polystyrene, has the potential to reduce the enormous amount of material that would otherwise go into landfill.
