Every April the US National Space Foundation hosts the National Space Symposium in Colorado Springs in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The Space Symposium is the premier event for the United States civil, military and commercial space communities, with a heavy emphasis on military space. This is unsurprising considering that Colorado Springs is the site of several major US Air Force space installations, particularly Schriever Air Force Base. About an hour and a half drive north, near Denver International Airport, is Buckley Air Force Base with its numerous white domes concealing military satellite communications dishes.
