The worst has happened. A valued crewmember has died in space during a mission. And one question requires an immediate answer: how should the body be handled? The answer may, however, be quite complex. The site of a death clearly influences what options exist for the cadaver. Returning the body to Earth quickly is likely to be possible only for missions in low Earth orbit, and even in those cases, it will be challenging.
