Responding to President Barack Obama's new space policy, Mars Society president Robert Zubrin fiercely attacks what he understands of the logic of the plan.[1] The US President has called for manned missions to an asteroid by 2025 and to Mars about ten years later. Such flights are certainly achievable, Zubrin counters, given a launch vehicle such as Ares 5, a crew capsule like Orion, and a space station module. But by cancelling Constellation, Obama is terminating the very programmes which would enable those missions to be flown.
