A description is given along with the functions and design features of a teleterminal which is a combination telephone and computer terminal whose control software is in the teleterminal EPROM. For users the first line of access is a menu on the screen. A `tree' and buttons that can be relabeled electronically enable the user to obtain a desired service. The use of leaves and branches of a mode are discussed. Methods for speeding the use of trees are examined. Suggestions for improving the equipment are also discussed. It is shown that the successful marriage of a computer terminal and a telephone depends on the unit's size and shape, as well as on how it communicates with the user.
