Work toward making broadband grants and loans under the stimulus law is taking shape. An FCC notice of inquiry will seek broad guidance on how to meet a congressional deadline to write a national broadband plan within a year. Officials expect the notice to dominate the commission's meeting April 8. The NTIA and the RUS have set an April 9 deadline for comments on how to carry out the stimulus law and coordinate their work with the FCC's.rnThe NTIA will invite grant applications in three rounds, the first starting sometime April to June. A second will come near year-end and a third in spring 2010, each involving about the same amount of money. The RUS plans to issue a notice of availability within 60 to 90 days of getting comments.
