A bill supported by high-speed Internet providers to ban municipal broadband was shelved 22-0 by the Public Utilities Committee of the North Carolina House. The May 6 move recast the measure as a study bill ordering joint review by the state Senate and House, with studies by a standing committee on broadband and the Committee on Revenue. The review would start in May 2010, when the Legislature reconvenes.
