Multinational agrochemical corporation Monsanto, one of the world's largest seed providers, has developed a data-driven "prescriptive planting" technology that suggests how densely rows of seeds should be planted and at what depth. Farmers using Monsanto's system have increased yields by about 5 per cent over two years. The French city of Toulouse has implemented a cutting-edge social media analytics initiative which, in its first year, analyzed more than 1.6 million online comments, helping significantly to decrease response times and increase understanding of citizens' needs.
