摘要

The 250 years anniversary of the Royal Norwegian Society of Science and Letters represents a milestone in Norwegian history of science. The event is properly celebrated with a new history of the Society. The former standard history, in Norwegian, was published at the bicentennial in 1960 (Midbøe, 1960). This new and updated account by professional historians of science is very welcome both because of the way it places a historically important institution of Norwegian science in its international context and because it provides access to Norwegian history of science in the modern international lingua franca, English.
