Factors that affect Chinese turbine competitiveness with European ones include: 1. Commodity: advanced turbines are not "commoditised" like solar panels are. And there are differences in quality and reliability between low and smaller turbines and large advanced turbines; 2. Monitoring and servicing: compared to the solar panel market, it is more crucial for the wind turbine manufacturer to be able to offer service offerings to back the initial sale; 3. Efficiency: Chinese turbines may be cheaper but European wind turbines have higher load factors; 4. Transport, localisation and features: while solar panels can be manufactured at low costs in China and transportation costs are not huge, transporting large parts of wind turbines can be a major issue; 5. Reliability and reputation: given the need for lifetime maintenance, will Chinese manufacturers be able to match the reputation and track record of the current global leaders in the field?
