摘要

Infants exposed to formula feeding are at increased risk for intestinal diseases with a bacterial etiology (e.g. necrotizing enterocolitis). However, the impact of diet on infant gut bacterial colonization has not been fully elucidated. Formula feeding may alter the normal gut flora in such a way that confers this heightened vulnerability to disease. Here, we utilize 16S bacterial DNA pyrosequen-cing, a culture independent technique, to quantitatively analyze the colonic microbiota of mice fed formula as compared to mice fed maternal milk to test the hypothesis that diet impacts the relative abundance of bacterial species in the gut.
