Harold Mooney spoke with Sustainability Science editors at the conclusion of the Informal Pre-Plenary Scientific Workshop on Assessment and the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES, ) on July 27th, 2011, at the United Nations University in Tokyo, Japan . Rather than a decision-making meeting, the Japanese Ministry of Environment and Government of South Africa sponsored workshop provided a general framework of the understanding of future assessments, as well as produced a draft document of recommendations to the IPBES plenary.
