摘要

The paper is a contribution to a permanent monitoring of forest condition and forest environment of the country by: providing information on defoliation of the selected spruce stands in the Tatra and Beskid Wysoki mountains, presenting defoliation dynamics of these stands, analysing the relationships between defoliation level and elevation a.s.l. exposition, stand age, meteorological conditions and emissions of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. The danger of decline of most of the old spruce stands in this region seems very realistic. Regeneration or transformation of older spruce stands in this region in the nearest future should be taken into consideration.
