France has decided to implement a taxation scheme for goods transport vehicles over 3.5 tonnes throughout the national road network extending over approximately 15.000 km. The scheme is designed and implemented by the company Ecomouv' SAS and its industrial partners, and will be operated by the same company for a period of 11.5 years on the basis of a commissioning contract with the Ministry of Ecology. It is planned for the new scheme to come into operation in July 2013. The new scheme is based on technical solutions based on the current state of the art, in particular GNSS technology, and falls within the framework of the European Directive for Interoperability between electronic toll systems.
