D'une longueur de 10 km, le Boulevard Périphérique Nord de Lyon (BPNL) comprend plusieurs ouvrages d'art et constitue une route express urbaine à péage reliant l'autoroute A6 au nord de Lyon, en amont du Tunnel sous Fourvière, au boulevard périphérique est, en passant sous la Saône. Mis en exploitation en 1997, le BPNL permet d'éviter le centre-ville; ses 7 échangeurs distribuent les accès vers les communes du Nord et l'Est de l'agglomération, ainsi que vers le 9e arrondissement lyonnais.%The City of Lyon's 10km long Northern Ring Road (BPNL) includes several engineering structures and is a an urban toll expressway connecting the A6 Motorway north of Lyon before the Fourviere tunnel to the Eastern ring road by going under the Saone River. Opened in 1997, the BPNL avoids the city centre; its 7 interchanges funnel traffic towards the towns to the North and East of the urban area as well as towards Lyons' 9th district.
