Text messaging is no doubt one of the most common forms of communication in the 21st century. King (2011) reports about a recent study that concluded nearly 1/3 (31%) of the American population prefers receiving text messages over phone calls; 14% were undecided and stated that it depended on the circumstance. Also, 73% of Americans who own cell phones send and receive text messages. Not surprisingly, young adults, ages 18-24, send and receive an average of 109.5 texts on a normal day, or more than 3,200 texts in one month.
