摘要

Is it just our imagination or are we having more heat waves than we did years ago? Heat is the number one weather-related killer in the U.S. More than 1,500 people die each year from excessive heat. That's greater than the number of deaths due to tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and lightning combined. Most summers see a major heat wave in one section or another of the U.S. East of the Rockies, heat waves tend to combine high temperatures with high humidity. In the 1995 heat wave, more than 700 deaths occurred in Chicago alone.
