In the recent history of V enezuela, a number of most unfortunate accidents have occurred as a result of the lack of adequate arresting beds for vehicles on long steep slopes. In particular, the Tazon slope and the Caracas-La Guaira freeway have been the site of catastrophic accidents with numerous fatalities. Projects designed to improve the existing truck escape ramp on the Tazon slope and to build new Ramps on the Caracas-La Guaira were ordered by the Government through the Transport and Communications Ministry.
