摘要

This book is set up essentially as a textbook for students trying to navigate the dizzying world of information, misinformation, and disinformation online. It provides chapters on why being able to recognize the patterns and implications of fake news is important in today's information landscape, the history of the phenomenon (hint: it did NOT begin in 2015), the psychological elements (cognitive biases) and rhetorical tricks (logical fallacies) that play into our susceptibility to misinformation, and ends with chapters on statistical literacy and other tools for separating the bad information from the good. It keeps its audience in mind at all times and would be applicable to any undergraduate or even graduate or adult learner classes as well. It never condescends to the readers but also does not gum up the excellent content with attempts to be too academic or jargon-y.
