The market for wearable devices is currently worth €30 billion a year, according to the European Commission's Andreas Lymberis, speaking at Futex-Interactive Textiles for Sport, Health and the Home, held in Lille, France, on 18-19 January 2017. He added commentators predict that the market will grow to between €70 billion and €150 billion by 2025. At the same event, Khaled Baaziz, Chief Executive Officer for Kamitis, a market research company from Lyon, France, said textiles capable of reacting to their environment by responding to stimuli (such as thermal, chemical and electrical factors) in a predictable and useful way, his definition of"smart textiles", would be worth just under US$1.5 billion by 2021, having grown at more than 20% a year from 2016.
