Schoeller Textile AG of Sevelen, Switzerland, has created a new subsidiary called Schoeller Medical AG to exploit the growing markets for medical and healthcare textiles. The first product for the new subsidiary is a range of underwear for those suffering from light-to-medium incontinence, called functionMed, which also marks the first time Schoeller has aimed to sell directly to the consumer. The basic underwear provides the wearer with protection from unpleasant odours and, optionally, includes a tailored functionMed pad to prevent leaks. All the materials Schoeller uses are highly breathable, it claims, and so keep the wearer comfortable. At the same time, the garments are designed to look fashionable.
