THE MANUFACTURE OF speciality glass-fibre reinforcements for the construction and energy industries at Ahlstrom's plant in Bishopville, South Carolina, USA, is to finish after the company from Helsinki, Finland, announced it will close the facility at the end of 2011. Ahlstrom blames the closure on weak demand for reinforcements from the wind-energy industry in North America. As a result of the move, the plant's 71 employees will lose their jobs. Seven more employees, this time at the company's plant in Mikkeli, Finland, have also lost their jobs, effective from December 201 I.
