PPG Industries - a manufacturer of speciality materials with headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - has restarted a furnace for making fibre glass at its facility in Lexington, North Carolina, USA, The furnace was restarted in order to meet increased demand for the company's products-particularly in markets for wind energy and filtration. As a result of the restart, capacity amounting to about 21 kt a year has been restored at the plant.rnTo support the restart, 180 employees have been added to the plant. Some were recalled, having been previously laid off when production at the furnace was suspended. Production at the plant was suspended on 28 June 2009, when 180 staff were laid off, including PPG employees and contractors.
